About her...

I’ve been writing my own compositions ever since I learnt to play the piano as a little girl. My work is inspired by the beautiful land and seascapes of Devon, where I was born and still live. My musical style is my own, but best described as modern classical. I have been giving presentations/talks for the past two years to Women’s Institutes, societies, U3A, Probus and Music Groups. I am currently working on another CD of my music.

About her talks...

My presentations last 45-60 minutes, depending on what the audience prefers. I am happy to play the piano or use my CD for my presentations.

Fee:

For bookings my fee is £55, plus 30p per mile travel each way from Bovey Tracey (£60 and 40p per mile for talks scheduled after 1st January, 2024). I can also give my talks viz Zoom, for which (of course) there is no travel charge.

I am prepared to travel anywhere within Devon and border areas of Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall.

Devon Land and Sea Piano Presentation

This presentation includes sixteen of my best piano pieces. Devon’s land and seascapes have been the inspiration for most of them, as I explain in during the presentations, which last around 45 minutes.

 

Devon Composers Presentation

This presentation/talk, with CDs, introduces John Gay, Hubert Bath, Richard Rodney Bennett, the Gilbert and Sullivan connection in Devon and then focuses on the Rev. Sabine Baring Gould and his collection of lost Devon and Cornwall folk songs. There is a large element of local and folk history in this presentation.

Christmas Themed Presentation

 

This presentation describes the history of the Christmas carol, Christmas music and poetry with CD. I can give a live performance of some carols on piano by request with this presentation.

 

Christmas Traditions Around the World

The presentation will focus mainly on European traditions, but there will be some from further afield.  The talk will be illustrated with Christmas carols played either on CD or live piano.

Halloween Themed Presentation

This presentation describes the origins and aspects of Halloween, illustrated with music on CD and a poem.

 

St. George’s Day/Shakespeare Themed Evening

 

This is a celebration of English music, poetry and a short talk on the life of Shakespeare.

Valentine Themed Presentation

Valentine Themed Presentation celebrates this romantic festival with music and describes its historical background.  I can present this either with live piano music or with recorded music if no piano is available at the venue.

Spring Concert

Spring Concert: this comprises a selection of my own piano music and popular classics, including Beethoven’s Fur Elise; Johann Strauss’s Emperor Waltz and Offenbach’s Barcarolle.   This concert is a medley of piano, tenor recorder and unaccompanied singing.
