Eddie is a retired airline pilot with over 21,500 hours of flying experience. He has flown a variety of different aeroplanes, including the DC.10, the Boeing 737 and the Airbus 321. Eddie’s passion for flying began when he was 13 years old. After a varied career spanning 35 years he retired from British Airways in 2013. Eddie then joined Toastmasters in Hertfordshire in order to get over his fear of public speaking and he enjoyed it so much that he developed his skills and has given an array of speeches over the last 6 years. He has also gained diplomas in Astronomy and Egyptology since leaving BA. To him retirement dosen’t mean standing still and vegetating. Eddie currently gives 4 talks and is working on others to add to his listing. He has given speeches to many WI’s, the Royal Air Force Association and numerous clubs and societies.
About Their Talks...
1. “In Full Flight” This is my story of the roller – coaster journey that I took in order to become an airline pilot.
2. “Titanic” The events that led to the sinking of this great ship. It covers 3 areas that have a contributing part in its demise, namely the
ship itself, the people involved with Titanic and the weather conditions.
3. “How Big is the Universe” After a brief history of astronomy, I cover the various parts and sizes of the universe from the Solar System to Galaxies. I
do this in a way that makes it easier to understand the sheer size and wonder of what is out there.
4. “Women in Aviation” Here I will tell how women have played their part in the field on aviation and space travel.
Fee:
My cost per speech is £75. There is no travelling expenses for the first 40 miles round trip, but an additional 45p per mile will be added thereafter, and the cost of tolls such as the Dartford Crossing will also be added. If the distance to the venue is greater than 100 miles each way, overnight accommodation may be added on as well as the possibility of travelling on public transport – this can be discussed when you contact me. I am also available at short notice.
