About Their Talks...
I offer a variety of talks, workshop sessions and performances tailored to suit your group or event. I offer everything From a simple 45 minute talk with a Q&A to running poetry themed workshops or performing poems mixed with amusing anecdotes to provide an entertaining show for your guests.
What to expect: When booking me, you can be assured of hiring a professional who cares about your event and will ensure your audience is kept engaged and amused throughout. I receive very positive feedback that often highlights how my enthusiasm for poetry is infectious, even from those who weren’t sure they’d like the topic beforehand!
I aim for talks to be informative, entertaining, light-hearted, thought-provoking and inspiring. People are often fascinated by what being a full-time poet involves and I am very happy to answer any questions that people may have throughout the talk or during a Q&A afterwards.
Workshops can focus on a specific topic to keep it relevant to your group, for example I have previously run workshops focusing on ‘women in poetry’ or ‘poetry and photography’. The aim is for everyone to enjoy playing with words, we don’t focus on being ‘good enough’ it’s all about being creative. There is always the opportunity for people to share what they’ve written but there is never any pressure on people to do so. I often find that people surprise themselves and feel a great sense of pride over what they’ve created. Many times, people who ‘don’t like poetry’ have discovered that they do!
Performances can be of any length that you need and for an additional cost can include a professional pianist to accompany the poetry. I will select the poems used in the performance to suit the event based on a conversation with the organiser. My poetry is accessible to a wide audience and you don’t need to be an avid poetry reader to enjoy it. I am often complimented on my ability to engage and entertain through poetry and poems can range from humorous and heart-warming to thought-provoking.
