About The Speaker...

I am a retired telephone engineer living in Exeter, Devon. Besides being the father of four grown up sons and  grandfather to five grandsons and two granddaughters, I grow and show fuchsias and pelargoniums.

I am a member, and former secretary and chairman, of the Exeter Fuchsia & Pelargonium Society. I have been growing fuchsias since the late 1980’s when I visited the annual Exeter Fuchsia show and ‘got hooked’.

About my talk...

The talk lasts about one hour. It is a Powerpoint presentation and I have my own computer, projector and screen.
Depending on the time of the year, I can include a short practical demonstration and/or the sale of plants. Or, for a summer event, you may prefer my Demonstration-and-Talk. Please scroll down for more details on both the talk and the Demonstration-and-Talk.

I charge £70 + traveling expenses If more than 10 miles from my home in Exeter, Devon.

Back to the Fuschsia

My talk is about the discovery and history of the fuchsia and my journey into the world of showing  these beautiful, prolifically flowering plants.  Included in the talk are illustrations of a collection of various cultivars. The presentation lasts about one hour though I can shorten or lengthen when required.  If the organisation has a break I can do a short practical demonstration and sale of plants, depending on the time of year

Growing Fuchsias - The How, The Where and The When

Having grown Fuchsias since the 1980’s I love to share my knowledge about these beautiful plants with anybody who’ll listen and presenting my Demonstration-and-Talk gives me an interested captive audience. What could be better?  You’ll learn how to take cuttings, how to feed your plants and how to protect them from pests. I discuss what varieties are the most hardy and which are the best trailing varieties. I demonstrate how to plant up pots and baskets and grow Fans, Standards and Towers.

Depending on the time of year I will have plants for sale.

I don’t use powerpoint with this demonstration, it’s just me and my plants, so all I need is a couple of tables.

The same fees would apply £40 + traveling expenses if more than 10 miles from my base in Exeter.
