About The Speaker...
I’m a beekeeper and amateur entomologist with ten years experience of keeping bees and producing honey (though to be fair the bees do the hard work, I just put it in jars) and in this time have learned a lot about, and developed a passion for, these wonderful creatures and all the other pollinators that we share our gardens with. I also know there’s still a lot to learn and I write a column on beekeeping in the leading beekeeping magazine – mainly about what I don’t know. I’ve also been recording moths for twelve years and in that time have recorded over 400 species in my back garden – moths really are a secret world waiting to be discovered. I also provide ‘moth mornings’ with the Surrey Wildlife Trust and local community and wildlife groups where we meet round one of my light traps to see what we’ve caught before releasing them. I work closely with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and am currently mapping bumblebee populations on the North Downs.
About Their Talks...
My talks all share a common focus on the pollinators of the UK and some of the problems they face with a particular focus on honeybees – and all the associated stories and traditions associated with bees and honey – but also bumblebees and moths. All talks are PowerPoint based and lavishly illustrated with photographs and with props where appropriate. The talks are designed to amuse and entertain as well as to build awareness and will hopefully leave audiences with a smile as well as food for thought.
Fee:
Each talk is £100 plus travel from Guildford
