About The Speaker...

I spent many years working in museums and heritage, developing exhibitions and programmes to help visitors connect and engage with collections. Now I work mainly freelance, still delivering engagement work in museums, as well as for several rural charities. I am on the Hampshire WI Speakers List.

I live in Hampshire and I’m happy to drive for an hour to deliver a talk, so if you are in a neighbouring county please enquire. I also work from the Scottish Borders at times, so can deliver talks from my base there, by arrangement.

About Their Talks...

I draw on my personal knowledge and experience to develop talks that are supported by images, sounds and objects. I bring a laptop and projector, so a screen or blank wall is required. Sometimes I may bring additional objects for a small display; all this is discussed at the point of booking.

I talk for 45 – 60 minutes and I’m very happy to respond to questions.

Fee:

I charge £50 for a talk. Please note this will increase to £60 1 January 2026.
Travel is 45p per mile for venues that are more than a 30 minute drive from my home (or my base near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders).

A Wander Without Wellies

Sit back, relax and enjoy a wander across the British countryside without leaving the comfort of your chair. This talk uses images and sounds to take you on a verbal walk in the countryside, making use of some of our ancient pathways to cross landscapes and looking at the flora and fauna that live there.

Up at the Big House

A talk about Glen House, its history and my recollections of working there. I grew up on The Glen Estate in the Scottish Borders. Working on the housekeeping team at Glen House, the Scottish home of Lord & Lady Glenconner and depicted in TV’s The Crown, was my first job.

Hampshire: supporting farming through the ages

Hampshire County Council has supported the advancement of farming for 130 years. From travelling magic lantern lectures to helping new entrants get a foot on the farming ladder, explore the lasting legacy of public sector and agricultural partnership.

Getting a Grip on Memory

A talk about the power of touch in our lives, and how our senses help bring memories to the fore. We tend to think about reminiscing as something older people do, but in fact we do it throughout our lives, at all ages. When we add the chance to touch something that inspires a memory into the mix, reminiscing can be a very powerful and positive experience. This talk will include a range of artefacts to explore, from Box Brownies to Bakelite light switches, and the chance to reminisce.
